Paper music score 12” x 1.5” x 4” elliptical

Jo Yarrington and composer John Morton come together for the first time to explore through an improvisational process, the interconnectedness of text, light and sound. Both artists use perforations in paper to produce work and were interested in developing an interdisciplinary project evolving from this practice. Morton and Yarrington used the Thomas J Hunter Project Room as a working studio/sound lab, experimenting with two music boxes, electrocardiograms, and nomenclature to find both literally and metaphorically the liminal spaces between sound and darkness, silence and light. Viewers are encouraged to turn on the blue lights and turn the handles of the music boxes either in concert or individually. beating Time...in two movements was performed, along with the performance of other work by John Morton, during the closing reception.
