Jo Yarrington uses photographic transparencies overlayed onto the existing grids of stained glass windows. Her work explores ritual and autobiography through images of the body and a highly developed symbolic vocabulary. Her site-specific pieces inquire into the nature of language as it intersects with the need to understand the self. The use of the windows of a religious sanctuary heightens the spiritual dimension already hinted at in Yarrington's work. Light, with all its metaphorical implications, becomes a significant new medium in her artistic process.
