A recent collaboration with Avinash Aggarwal, a veteran of analogue photography, as a part of my residency at Shiv Nadar University.
During my explorations at the Studio A 89, I experimented with contact-based image-making using cyanotype, photogram, and cuprotype—on varied surfaces including 400 GSM hot-pressed paper and silver gelatin prints.
The initial experiments offered an opportunity to engage deeply with the material's subtle tonalities. This prompted a creative reworking of the source imagery through DSLR capture and digital inversion, allowing for the production of more nuanced transparencies. These were then developed through sunlight exposures and chemical toning. The evolving test prints and final works revealed a spectrum of tactile effects from the luminous blues of cyanotypes to the warm, textured depths of iron-toned cuprotypes, each underscoring the iterative, hands-on nature of alternative photographic processes.
